I Am Learning Not to Fear the Shift

I keep thinking about how fast we turn a change in someone's energy into a story about our worth. A shorter reply becomes rejection. A quiet day becomes regret. A person needing room becomes proof that we were too much, not enough, or somehow both before breakfast. Writing around the heart of GEMINI LOVE LANGUAGE stirred up that uncomfortable space for me. The space between knowing people are allowed to shift and knowing love still needs to feel safe. Those two truths can sit at the same table, even when they do not like each other very much. I am learning not to fear every shift. But I am also learning not to romanticize confusion. That distinction matters to me. There is something beautiful about loving a person who contains contradictions. Someone curious and cautious. Tender and restless. Ready to tell you everything, then suddenly needing silence to understand what they just revealed. I do not think complexity is a flaw. I think most of us are more than one person emotionally. We just hide the versions we think will be harder to love. Still, understanding someone cannot mean abandoning myself in the process. I have been sitting with that sentence because it sounds simple until feelings get involved. Then patience can start wearing the clothes of self-neglect. Empathy can become an excuse we hand to someone who never asked for one but gladly accepts it. We can spend so much time translating another heart that we forget our own has been speaking too. What I want readers to know is this: you are allowed to ask what the silence means. You are allowed to need reassurance without apologizing for it. You are allowed to say, “I can make room for your many sides, but I cannot keep guessing whether one of them still chooses me.” That is not pressure. That is honesty. Maybe love is not about finding someone who speaks exactly like us. Maybe it is about finding someone willing to pause, explain, listen, and learn the shared language with us. Not perfectly. Not without crossed wires. But willingly. I think that is the part I am holding closest right now. Love does not have to be easy to translate, but both people should be trying.
