The Things We Do Instead of Saying I Love You
I have been sitting with the difference between being dependable and being emotionally available.
They look similar from far away.
Both show up. Both remember. Both carry what needs carrying. But one can still keep the softest part of itself hidden while doing everything right.
Writing CAPRICORN LOVE LANGUAGE stirred that thought in me again and again. What happens when two people recognize love through discipline, consistency, and promises kept, but neither of them wants to be the first one to name what is happening?
There is something tender about people who love through action. They may not give you a long speech, but they will make sure you get home safely. They will remember the thing you forgot. They will quietly handle a problem before you even know it has grown teeth.
That counts.
I never want to write as if words are the only honest form of love. They are not. Words can be beautiful and empty. We know this. Some people can promise you the moon and still leave you standing outside in the rain with no umbrella and a very stupid amount of hope.
But action can hide things too.
It can hide fear. It can hide exhaustion. It can hide the question underneath all that usefulness: if I stop doing everything, will I still be loved?
That question stayed with me.
I think a lot of capable people have learned to make themselves necessary because necessary feels safer than wanted. If someone depends on you, perhaps they will not leave. If you never ask for anything, perhaps nobody gets the chance to disappoint you.
But that is a lonely kind of control.
What I want readers to know is that quiet devotion is not lesser love. It does not need to become loud or dramatic to be real. It may simply need a voice.
A plain one.
I did this because I care about you.
I am tired, and I need you too.
I love you. That is what all of this has been trying to say.
There is courage in those words, especially for the person who has spent a lifetime believing proof should be enough.
Maybe proof is enough to reveal love.
But language lets love be received.
