The Truth Beneath the Explanation

I keep sitting with the distance between knowing something and being ready to admit it. That distance can be very small on paper. One sentence, maybe. This hurts me. This is not what I thought it was. I do not feel safe being fully myself here. But inside a person, that distance can feel like a whole country. Writing Becoming Me stirred up the question of what happens when feeling and observation seem to pull in opposite directions. One part says, but look at the warmth. Look at the tenderness. Look at what this could still become. Another part is quietly collecting the moments that do not fit. The withdrawal. The confusion. The way a simple concern somehow returns wearing your name as the problem. I understand why we reach for explanations. Explanations can feel merciful. They let us keep the version of love we were promised. They give us somewhere to place the pain besides the truth. Maybe they are stressed. Maybe I asked for too much. Maybe I misunderstood. Maybe tomorrow will return what yesterday took away. There is nothing foolish about wanting to believe in someone. I want readers to know that. Openness is not stupidity. Empathy is not weakness. Loving fully is not a character flaw. But I am learning that compassion without discernment can become a quiet kind of self-erasure. You can spend so much time understanding why someone hurt you that you forget to ask why you keep being asked to hold the hurt. The body asks that question even when the mouth cannot. It asks through tension. Fatigue. Restlessness. Relief when the room is finally empty. I do not think every uncomfortable feeling is a command. Sometimes fear is old. Sometimes the body remembers what the present did not do. But I do believe repeated discomfort deserves respect. Not panic. Not shame. Attention. What I hope readers carry from this work is permission to let the Feeler and the Watcher speak to each other. The heart does not have to be humiliated for loving. The mind does not have to become cruel to tell the truth. We can be soft and clear. We can grieve and still go. We can choose ourselves without turning our hearts into locked rooms. That is the becoming I am sitting with. Not becoming someone untouched by love, but someone who no longer disappears inside it.
