The Voice I Almost Talked Myself Out Of
There is something uncomfortable about writing a woman who stops asking permission to be whole.
Not because I do not believe in her. I do.
It is uncomfortable because the page does not let me pretend this is only about magic. The witch, the shadows, the veil, all of it keeps pointing back to something painfully ordinary: how easy it is to distrust yourself when other people are more comfortable with the quieter version of you.
I have been sitting with that.
The way we can know something in our bones and still hold a whole courtroom inside our minds. Evidence. Objections. Closing arguments. Anything to avoid saying the simple thing: this does not feel right for me.
While writing around these themes, I kept thinking about how often power gets confused with performance. We imagine becoming whole will look loud and fearless. Maybe it will look beautiful. Maybe there will be candles. Good lighting. A dramatic breeze at exactly the right moment.
But most reclamation is quieter than that.
It is the pause before an automatic yes.
It is letting yourself dislike something without writing an apology for it.
It is trusting the small voice before the crowd arrives to vote.
What stirred me most was the tenderness underneath the hiding. I do not want to judge the parts of us that learned to disappear. They were not weak. They were paying attention. They understood the cost of being seen in spaces that only offered love when we were easy to hold.
Still, survival can become a room we forget to leave.
That is what I am sitting with now. The difference between being protected and being buried. The difference between peace and silence. The difference between changing because we are growing and changing because somebody else prefers us dimmed.
I want readers to know they do not have to reveal everything at once. Awakening does not require public proof. You can meet yourself privately. You can take one honest step and let that be enough for today.
The hidden parts are not always dangerous.
Sometimes they are simply tired of waiting for you to come back.
